Does Medicare cover GLP-1 medicines for weight loss?
Since July 1, 2026, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge can cover Wegovy, Zepbound KwikPen, Foundayo for weight management for eligible people with Part D drug coverage, through December 31, 2027. CMS says covered prescriptions cost $50 at the pharmacy. Your doctor has to send a prior authorization request; you can't apply yourself.
Does Medicare cover Ozempic?
When Ozempic is prescribed for type 2 diabetes, it goes through your Medicare drug plan. Whether it's on your plan's list, what tier it's on, and whether prior authorization is needed all depend on the plan, so call the number on your plan card.
Can Medicare cover Wegovy for heart disease?
Yes, it can. Wegovy is approved to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in adults who already have heart disease and are overweight. Prescribed for that use, it goes through your Medicare drug plan rather than the Bridge.
Can Medicare cover Zepbound for sleep apnea?
Yes, it can. Zepbound is approved for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. For that use it goes through your Medicare drug plan. For weight management, only the Zepbound KwikPen is on the Bridge's list.
